AAPPD member organizations commit to the following prescribed standards of conduct.
- Offer support and services with integrity, compassion, and respect for individual differences and choice;
- Offer supports and services designed to meet the needs of people, promoting choice, self determination, inclusion, growth and development;
- Respect the privacy of people and protect their right of confidentiality;
- Commit to professional responsibility over any personal interests;
- Advocate for standards that promote outcomes of quality and satisfaction for people;
- Contribute information to develop continuing education and expanded knowledge of best practices in the field of disabilities;
- Safeguard the rights of people and not discriminate because of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or national ancestry;
- Serve as a responsible steward of public and private funds;
- Be accountable as a member of AAPPD;
- Remember that a key element to success is to support staff who have committed to this field and to have fun;
- If providers of employment support services, shall utilize at least 60% of people with developmental disabilities in their state set-aside contracts.
- Honor the confidentiality of all AAPPD correspondence.
